Stillingsbeskrivelse
Skarv Technologies is in a phase of growth.
As interest in our autonomous underwater vehicles grows, we are expanding our engineering team to meet the increasing demand.
Designing mechanical systems for underwater use poses unique challenges: pressure, corrosion, sealing, limited volume, and thermal constraints all shape what is possible, and every design decision must hold up in an environment where a vehicle cannot be reached once it is in the water.
We are now looking for a Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineer to play a central role in the mechanical design of our autonomous underwater vehicles.
You will contribute to many of the design decisions that define our vehicles, working closely with the rest of the engineering team.
Role OverviewAs Senior R&D Mechanical Design Engineer, you play a central role in the mechanical design and development of our autonomous underwater vehicles, all the way from concept and CAD through prototyping and verification.
You design pressure-rated subsea enclosures and handle mechanical integration of sensors and electro-mechanical subsystems.
You also contribute to the architectural choices that determine how our vehicles are put together.
You design with production in mind and work closely with the production team to ensure that designs are optimized for production.
You follow your designs through verification and testing, and you help set the engineering standards the team works to.
Key Responsibilities• Lead and contribute to the mechanical architecture of our AUV platforms: help define structure, interfaces, and technical direction across subsystems
• Perform mechanical design and 3D modelling of components, subassemblies, and complete vehicle structures
• Design pressure-rated housings, sealing solutions, and ruggedized structures for subsea environments
• Carry out material selection, tolerance analysis, and strength and structural assessments
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and revision control for your designs
• Design for manufacture and assembly in close cooperation with the production team
• Plan and follow up verification and testing of mechanical solutions
• Coordinate the technical priorities of the mechanical team together with the CTO
Other responsibilities:• Collaboration across disciplines with software, electronics, and autonomy engineers on integration and interface design.
• Possible participation in field testing in the Trondheim fjord as well as field surveys nationally and internationally.
• Some traveling may be expected.
Candidate ProfileWe are looking for an experienced engineer who takes ownership of technical direction and follows designs through to working hardware.
You combine design judgment and structural discipline with a practical understanding of how things are built and tested.
High standards in quality and documentation are a given.
Professional Qualifications• Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or a similar field.
• Relevant experience may substitute formal education.
• Several years of experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Experience contributing to mechanical design decisions or technical direction across a product.
• Strong CAD skills, including assemblies and drawing production.
• Experience with Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar tools is required.
• Good knowledge of and experience with design for subsea, pressure-rated equipment, including sealing solutions and material selection.
• Experience with structural and strength calculations and technical assessments.
• Experience with verification and testing of mechanical solutions.
• Experience with technical documentation and revision control.
Bonus skills• Familiarity with relevant standards and requirements for subsea equipment.
• Experience with FEA and simulation tools.
• Experience with pressure rating and testing of mechanical designs.
• Knowledge of PLM systems.
• Experience designing for additive manufacturing.
Personal Attributes• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Takes responsibility and is able to deliver on deadlines.
• Structured and organized, with the discipline to plan work and document decisions.
• Curious and interested in developing professionally.
• Works well both independently and as part of a team.
• Communicates clearly in Norwegian and/or English.
Security Requirement:Eligibility for clearance through the Norwegian National Security Authority.
Why Skarv Technologies? We offer a dynamic environment at the forefront of ocean-technology innovation.
You will work in a multidisciplinary team and contribute directly to shaping next-generation underwater robotics.
What We Offer• Work with disruptive technologies where designs are built and proven on physical systems solving real problems.
• The opportunity to shape mechanical design and engineering practice in a fast-paced tech company.
• Diverse responsibilities within a committed, multidisciplinary team.
• Competitive compensation including pension and insurance arrangements.
• Flexible working hours and an office centrally located in Trondheim.
• Access to waterfront testing facilities and real operational scenarios.
• Subsidized lunch arrangement.
