We’re looking for an Instrument & Electrical Engineer to join our Engineering and Process Systems team in Porsgrunn. You’ll be part of an experienced group delivering advanced process solutions and hardware to the oil and gas and energy industry. Full‑time with flexible working arrangements.
You bring strong technical competence and solid oil & gas processing experience. In this role, you’ll own I&E engineering activities across small and large projects specifying instrumentation, valves, and electrical systems according to client requirements, industry standards, and SLB guidelines. You’ll work closely with Execution Centers, Sales, and project support teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Meet our Team
You’ll join SLB’s Engineering and Process Systems team a skilled group designing, engineering, and fabricating advanced processing equipment for oil, gas, water, and solids. Our projects range from single-train vessels to multi-deck modules weighing up to 3,000 tons for both onshore and offshore facilities. We work directly with external clients and support internal SLB projects, delivering solutions that make a real impact.
We’re a strong, collaborative team of 36 professionals with a wide age range and diverse backgrounds. Joining SLB means becoming part of a global organization where you’ll work alongside industry experts, contribute to cutting-edge projects, and help shape the future of energy technology.
Key Responsibilities
• Support proposals by assessing client needs and developing tailored equipment solutions.
• Provide technical support during sales, project execution, and troubleshooting onshore and offshore.
• Review and interpret customer specifications, ensuring compliance or highlighting deviations.
• Prepare cost estimates for instrumentation, valves, specialty items, spare parts, field instruments, hookups, and control systems.
• Follow up on instrumentation deliveries, including progress, clarifications, and documentation.
• Specify and prepare requisitions for instrumentation, valves, and piping components
• Provide installation instructions and dimensional drawings during design and fabrication.
• Deliver hookup details to I&E contractors and review vendor drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Perform inspections of instrumentation and valves.
What We’re Looking For
• Strong communication skills in English and Norwegian.
• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Instrument, or Electrical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience specifying and selecting instrumentation and valves in the energy industry.
• Knowledge of flow elements, pressure and level transmitters, and ability to propose alternative solutions based on cost, space, schedule, and maintenance.
• Ability to review complex P&IDs and collaborate across design, estimation, fabrication, operations, and sales.
