We are on the lookout for someone like you to lead a team of developers managing applications that are critical to both our business and our customers.
About the role
We are looking for a Lead Developer to take a central role in driving the evolution of our Norwegian applications that support the core systems.
In this role, you will guide a team of skilled developers, acting as both mentor and technical lead. You’ll collaborate closely with key stakeholders including the Product Owner, Tribe Architect, IT Delivery Manager, and the Mainframe Centre of Excellence. Together, you’ll ensure that our solutions are aligned with If’s architectural principles and long-term strategy.

Key Responsibilities:
• Lead the technical delivery within the Yggdrasil squad, ensuring design, development, and maintenance of stable and secure solutions.
• Translate business requirements into efficient technical solutions.
• Act as a bridge between business experts, technical developers in Norway and India, and architectural teams.
• Ensure consistent coding standards, version control, security and documentation practices.
• Mentor and guide developers, promoting learning and adherence to Agile and DevOps principles. Drive adoption of modern engineering practices, including CI/CD, automated testing and monitoring.
• Drive modernization activities such as API enablement for integration between cloud-based and mainframe systems) and data replication using Change Data Capture (CDC).
• Ensure optimal usage and cost management of Azure resources.

About the team
The Core Tribe is responsible for maintaining and evolving our business-critical insurance and claims systems. The Tribe operates cross-functionally across Finland and Norway, organized into smaller squads combining business domain experts with IT professionals.
Our IT development teams include colleagues from If’s internal IT units as well as strategic partners such as Tata Consultancy Services, ensuring seamless collaboration across Norway and India.
Yggdrasil squad is one of the squads in the Core Tribe. The mission of this squad is to ensure the ecosystems of applications supporting the Policy and Claims systems within the Norwegian scope is viable, healthy and stable. As the Lead Developer for this squad, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and developing this ecosystem and strengthen our squad technical leadership and drive engineering excellence.
Who are you?
You are a technically strong and forward-thinking developer with a passion for quality and long-term solutions. You bring a combination of deep technical expertise and leadership skills that enable you to guide your team and collaborate effectively across roles in an Agile setup.
We also believe you have a quality-minded approach to development with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement mindset. You can understand and work with the big picture in mind. You possess strong communication skills across technical and business domains. When designing and evaluating solutions you apply an architectural perspective and when a problem appears you are fast to apply a collaborative, transparent, and pragmatic approach to solve it.
In terms of technical experience, you have:
• Solid experience with C#, .NET, and Azure application development and maintenance.
• Familiarity with enterprise solutions, REST APIs, and message-based architecture.
• Experience working with both Azure and on-premise solutions.
• Good knowledge and practical use of Infrastructure as Code (for example Terraform or Bicep).
• Hands-on experience with tools such as Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience with static code and security analysis tools such as SonarQube and Snyk.
• Experience applying OWASP Top 10 in design, development, and risk assessment of applications.
• Experience with authentication and authorization solutions including OAuth2, Curity and Identify Providers.
• Understanding of basic networking concepts including firewall rules and ability to use Wireshark for troubleshooting when needed.
• Experience with monitoring and observability using Dynatrace, Application Insights, Splunk or similar tools.
It´s a plus if you have:
• Python and Databricks competence.
• Familiarity with integration patterns between distributed systems and IBM z Mainframe.
• Experience with monitoring and observability using Dynatrace, Application Insights, Splunk or similar tools.
• Understanding of basic networking concepts including firewall rules and ability to use Wireshark for troubleshooting when needed.
