We are seeking an experienced Contract & Commercial Manager to oversee all commercial and contractual aspects of projects, from tendering through to execution. The position can be located in Haugesund, Oslo, or Stavanger.
The Contract & Commercial Manager may participate in or lead tenders, and will act as the commercial lead on projects. The Contract & Commercial Manager will generally follow the same project through the full project lifecycle, from receipt of tender through to project execution.
On a project, the Contract & Commercial Manager will be responsible for contracts management and project controls including planning, cost control, SCM and document control, with these functions reporting directly to the Contract & Commercial Manager during project execution.
Duties and responsibilities
The key responsibilities for the Contract & Commercial Manager during the Tender phase, either as Tender Lead or in a supporting role are:
• Develop and manage commercial strategy and tendering activities in coordination with the Tender Manager, Commercial Manager of the Business Line and Technical Lead/Manager to secure a successful outcome.
• Carry out detailed commercial and contractual review of the tender, and preparation of tender outlines, including risk analysis, for presentation to senior management.
• As Tender Lead, act as the single point of contact with customer and DeepOcean senior management.
• Participate in or manage the tender team and delegate responsibilities for tender input within the organization.
• As Tender Lead, lead negotiations and clarifications with the client in accordance with DeepOcean delegations, principles and procedures to establish the contract.
During the Execution phase, after successful completion of a tender, the key responsibilities are:
• Form part of the project management team alongside Project Manager and Project Technical Manager. The Contract & Commercial Manager is responsible for contract management of the allocated project(s) and for overseeing the mercantile functions within the project organisation such as Cost Control, Planning, SCM and Document Control.
• Fulfil the contract management role on the project, ensuring full compliance with contract obligations and timely notifications.
• Proactively lead the variation management process to identify change, in close collaboration with the project team and through monitoring of correspondence and subsequently prepare the relevant claim and obtain client approval.
• Ensure that rigorous standards are set and maintained in terms of quality of formal project correspondence and communication tracking, including drafting of contractual documents such as variations, side letters, amendments and addendums.
• Lead internal and external project meetings and processes related to contractual/commercial issues and disputes. Liaise with management and the legal department as required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor ’s or Master’s degree preferably within industrial economics, economics, business and/or contractual administration, law or other relevant discipline.
• Minimum 5 years ’ working experience from contract and commercial management or from a similar project role within the oil & gas and/or renewables sector.
• Commercial mindset and contractual understanding, with a good knowledge of legal concepts relevant to the industry.
• Ability to effectively negotiate, along with high professional standards of written and spoken English is essential.
• Experience with relevant contract standards such as NTK, NS, FIDIC and/or BIMCO is an advantage.
• Subsea industry experience and/or technical understanding may be an advantage, but not a requirement.
